Weber Specialties Company Announces Expanded Capabilities

Weber Specialties has added a 3 kW HK FS 3015 fiber laser to its production floor. This additional capacity will allow Weber to better service existing programs, as well as expand its offerings in short-run metal parts.

Laser capabilities include:

  • Max. sheet size: 5' x 10'
  • Max. cutting thicknesses: .600" steel, .390" aluminum and stainless, .120" copper, .160" brass
  • Max. cutting rate: 1,000 IPM
  • Repeatability: ±0.001"
  • Latest Precitec ProCutter two head for enhanced edge quality and cutting speed
  • Latest Sigmanest software for high efficiency/low scrap part nesting
  • Automation capability for increased capacity in the future.

"The new HK FS 3015 laser will enable Weber to serve customers with low volume, high mix parts in almost any material," said a Weber spokesperson. "We can use the laser to cut parts that flow into a variety of secondary operations, including powder coating, forming, welding/assembly or a combination of all three."

The laser will also be used to improve Weber's traditional stamping processes by allowing for development of strips and form tooling before hard tooling, as well as in the manufacture of die components (stripper pads, shims, gauging).

The fiber laser also serves the engineering department by allowing the creation of prototype parts for Weber and its customers. "This gives us a new segment of business that we previously outsourced, while also increasing our speed and flexibility within our forming and assembly processes," said the spokesperson. "We can better serve customers by having the capability to make changes to parts and rapidly dial in each operation, from laser blanking to finished product."

An additional 50 W CO2 marking laser was also brought online this year to increase cutting capacity for non-metallic parts.

Weber is ISO 9001:2008 registered and serves the furniture, automotive, appliance and medical industries.
