Inserts for Parting, Grooving

ISCAR offers a range of inserts designed for parting and grooving applications.

GRIP

ISCAR's GRIP range of parting and grooving tools feature a variety of insert geometries, chip breakers and carbide grades. "Multiple factors need to be considered in all parting and grooving operations, including the machine tool being used, the kind of material being parted/grooved, the required depth of cut and feed and speed rates. ISCAR is now able to supply the most appropriate parting and grooving solution for a variety of requirements," said a company spokesperson.

TANG-GRIP

ISCAR's TANG-GRIP single-ended insert was developed to enable efficient parting. "A secure clamping method using a tangentially oriented pocket provides pocket life three times that of any other conventional self-grip system. TANG-GRIP's robust clamping method enables machining at high feedrates and provides enhanced straightness and surface finish characteristics," said the spokesperson.

New TANG-GRIP flat top economical blades now feature four pockets compared to the previous version which had two pockets, while the integral shank tools feature two pockets compared to its predecessor which had a single pocket. "ISCAR TANG-GRIP blades and tools are rigid and are capable of bearing heavy tooth loads (high feeds), resist lateral loads and offer improved surface straightness. The 35 mm blades, which are 30 mm longer than any other standard blades, can be used for deep grooving and parting applications," said the spokesperson. "TANG-GRIP'S flat top configuration eliminates chip obstructions."

The TANG-GRIP range of inserts is available with a variety of chip formers, with both neutral and angular frontal cutting edges. The range comprises blades and inserts in 1.4 - 12.7 mm widths in IC5400, IC830, IC808, SUMOTEC grades and includes an easy to use clamping and extracting device.

The Tang-Grip blades feature an engraved ruler to assist in overhang adjustment and are supplied in standard sizes that fit ISCAR's blocks.

PENTA-IQ-GRIP

PENTA-IQ-GRIP inserts, featuring five cutting edges and available in 2 and 3 mm widths, are designed for parting up to a 40 mm part diameter or up to a 20 mm depth of cut.

A dovetail wedge clamping system is designed to provide stable PENTA-IQ-GRIP insert clamping, secure edge indexing and rapid insert replacement. "In addition, the robust structure enables the application of high machining parameters, resulting in reduced cutting time," said the spokesperson. "The system is designed for enhanced straightness and surface finish characteristics in parting applications."

PENTA-IQ-GRIP inserts are available in three sizes for parting: D22 (up to 22 mm part diameter), D32 (up to 32 mm part diameter) and D40 (up to 40 mm part diameter). D22 and D32 mm sizes can also be used on Swiss-type and small CNC machine tools.

All inserts feature C- and J-type chip formers to accommodate a wide variety of machining and material applications. PENTA-IQ-GRIP is produced from grade IC808G, a hard, fine grain substrate with enhanced chipping resistance, while a TiAlN PVD coating provides increased wear resistance.

DO-GRIP

DO-GRIP is a double-ended twisted geometry designed for unlimited depth of penetration. The DO-GRIP range includes a large choice of parting widths.

JET HP

JET-CUT, a part of the JET HP family, is ISCAR's DO-GRIP parting insert featuring an internal coolant channel that passes through the insert. This is designed to ensure that the insert's body is internally cooled while also delivering an efficient coolant jet close to the cutting edge.

"Materials such as titanium, Inconel or austenitic stainless steel tend to harden during the cutting process and form long and tangled chips," said the spokesperson. "The efficient delivery of coolant to the cutting zone by the use of JET-CUT DO-GRIP parting inserts improves chip formation and lowers flank and cratering rates."
