Solution for Welding on Zinc-Coated Material

Designed to for the challenges of welding galvanized materials in the automotive industry, Process Z from Lincoln Electric produces welds with significantly reduced porosity while maintaining rapid travel speeds on zinc-coated material. The process is specifically designed to maximize productivity and quality on any galvanized welding application.

Lincoln Electric's Metalshield Z metal-cored wire provides the backbone for the Process Z solution, delivering enhanced performance in fast-follow, high-travel-speed applications. "Its formulation minimizes the amount of zinc in the weld metal, eliminating surface porosity and reducing internal weld metal porosity. It achieves this while providing virtually spatter-free welds that result in quick post-weld prep work," said a company spokesperson.

The benefits of the Metalshield Z wire can be realized across a range of equipment and waveform solutions. Operators may use standard, constant-voltage power sources running DC-negative polarity to achieve higher travel speeds and lower porosity compared to solid wire. Or, they can combine Metalshield Z with Lincoln Electric's Power Wave advanced process welding power sources for enhanced throughput and quality. Lincoln Electric's equipment and Waveform Control Technology deliver stability when welding galvanized material. The Rapid Z waveform, tailored for zinc applications, can push travel speeds beyond 55" per minute, with zero surface porosity, and less than 1% internal porosity.
