Complete Metal Chips and Fluid Processing Systems

PRAB, Inc., a global manufacturer of engineered scrap metal conveyors, chip processing systems and fluid filtration has 65 years of experience in working with all facets of the metalworking industry. The complete scrap metal and fluid processing systems are designed to meet industrial manufacturer's needs from generation to recycling and disposal.

"PRAB's complete scrap processing system offers industrial manufacturers and metalworking companies cost reductions and improved productivity by automating the waste management process," said a company spokesperson. "Automating the scrap metal and fluid recovery process mitigates risk of worker injury and limits exposure to agents causing potential health conditions. PRAB designs equipment to meet the unique material handling needs of an application; engineered to fit into existing floor space."

A typical scrap processing system begins with an in-floor Harpoon conveying system, designed with a sealed trough for efficient transfer of scrap metal and fluids. Smaller volumes of bulky metal turnings can also be reduced directly at the machining center by attaching PRAB's Horizontal Axis Crusher (HAC). Metal turnings are then transferred into PRAB's Diagonal-Shaft Wringer, which uses up to 700 g-force to separate metalworking fluids to create dry metal chips. "Drier metal scrap provides higher returns on the scrap, eliminates oily seepage on the floor and helps industrial manufacturers keep workers safe and in compliance with environmental standards," said the spokesperson. A pneumatic conveying system is used to blow chips into either a recycling container/trailer or to PRAB's DualPak Briquetter to be compacted into dry briquettes. The briquetter uses augers in a live-bottom hopper to effectively feed metal chips into the compression chamber of the unit. The exclusive two-hydraulic cylinder design presses the chips and releases fluids, resulting in a solid dry briquette for storage, remelt or recycle.

Metalworking fluids are collected at multiple points in the system for transfer to a PRAB coalescing Guardian Coolant Filtration and Recycling System. The Guardian can reduce new fluid purchases by up to 75 percent and waste fluids up to 90 percent by removing tramp oils and suspended solids from coolant.
