New Toolholding System
November 1, 2015
In today's high speed manufacturing world, one of the most difficult challenges that manufacturers face is the issue of tool pullout.
Haimer has developed the Safe-Lock system to eliminate tool pullout and unlock for high-performance end mills during heavy duty cutting. Safe-Lock uses a pin locking system in the I.D. of a shrink fit holder or collet chuck that engages with a groove on the O.D. of a cutting tool. This creates a positive form locking mechanism that is designed to prevent round cutting tools from being rotated and consequently pulled out during heavy machining.
"The symmetrical pull out protection of Safe-Lock does not force the cutting tool off center, so no unbalance or runout is created. Combine this with the resulting 3 micron T.I.R and Haimer now provides a vibration free machining process which enables a superior metal removal rate through higher speeds and feeds. Machining with Safe-Lock will improve the life of both the cutting tools and machine tool spindle while providing a significantly better surface finish on the workpiece. Scrap is also reduced since the cutting tools are no longer being pulled out and causing damage to expensive workpieces," said a company spokesperson.
Twelve of the world's tool manufacturers have actively become licensed partners in Safe-Lock.
