Engis Corporation has announced a major expansion of its product range to include multi-stroke honing machines and tools.
"While Engis has been at the leading edge in single-pass bore finishing technology for large volume production globally for almost 35 years, we recognized there was also a need for precision bore honing solutions in manufacturing environments where small batches and quick changeovers are key. Our customers have been looking for the Engis approach to be applied in multi-stroke honing for quite some time," said Stephen Griffin, President of the Engis Group of Companies.
Engis has signed a distribution agreement with the Delapena Group of Cheltenham, UK, for North America and East Asia.
"We are very excited at Delapena to partner with such a prestigious company. We believe that with a combination of Engis and Delapena technologies, customers will have significantly more potential solutions than in the past," said Martin Elliott, President of the Delapena Group.
Delapena's technology is designed to be user-friendly, which eliminates the need for highly experienced operators in order to achieve the desired results. Employees with basic machine operation skills can be brought up to speed quickly and produce parts to the same quality level which used to take years to learn on manual machines. Delapena has also designed the machines with a small footprint, understanding that factory floor space can be at a premium nowadays.
"The operator is completely protected from any moving parts thanks to safety interlocks within the fully enclosed guarding. This is superior to a light curtain approach due to a potential delay in transmitting a stop signal once the light interface has been broken," said company spokesperson. The parts are mounted into fixtures which remove the need for them to be manually presented to the hone while the machine is in operation. All Delapena machines are CE compliant in terms of both design and construction.
Engis will be responsible for the sales, service and application engineering for the Delapena range of equipment. The new stroke honing range will be displayed and stocked at Engis' primary manufacturing facility in Wheeling, IL. In addition, Engis is in the process of expanding its specialized team to assist customers in terms of technical and commercial assistance.
