Industrial Precision Grinding Brings Metal Stock into Spec

Industrial precision grinding comprises an important aspect of the CNC machining operations that Titletown Manufacturing performs for OEMs throughout Wisconsin. This step in the manufacturing process brings rough metal stock to its final dimensions, with tolerances within .0002" of spec.

Titletown Manufacturing performs three different types of industrial precision grinding operations depending on the size, shape and targeted portion of the stock. It is common for machines to include parts requiring multiple CNC machining operations prior to assembly.
Surface grinding is the technique most often used on smaller pieces and typically takes a part down to its final dimensions. These pieces usually are 12" x 24" or less. Blanchard grinding (also known as rotary surface grinding) is an industrial precision grinding method Titletown uses to remove material from stock that has large surface areas. Its Blanchard grinder features a 40" diameter table to hold the stock in place.
Finally, outside diameter (OD) grinding is a method specific to cylindrical stock. The Titletown team can bring these pieces down to within .0002" of the target diameter with finishes as fine as 8 Ra (roughness average). The company can perform OD grinding on stock as large as 95" long and 16" in diameter.
