Zero Point 5-Axis Workholding Automation Console

Teknics ZeroClamp USA has introduced its Zerolox XP 80Z Zero Point Workholding Automation Console that is made in Germany.

"The Zerolox Console provides a universal interface that allows quick precision positioning in seconds for clamping 5-axis self-centering vises, pallets and workpieces on 3-, 4- and 5-axis CNC machines. Its non-wearing technology ensures high reliability," said a company spokesperson. The pneumatic console comes ready to be used either manually or with cobot/robot automation.

"The ZeroClamp Zerolox Zero Point Automation console is superior both in repeatability and clamping force to single zero point workholding units, having only one clamping stud with an orientation pin or slot," said the spokesperson. "Additionally, manual mechanical plate zero point clamping systems use four V-notched studs on a 52 mm/96 mm spacing, which requires clearance in multiple geometric planes."

ZeroClamp's patented Zero Point center cone technology 2.5 µm (0.0001") repeatability. "Thermal growth is always at the center point of the console, which is important for accurate 5-axis machining and maintaining the center of the tool point and axis of rotation," said the spokesperson.

The four integrated 90 mm Zero Point clamping units provide high clamping forces of 50,000 N, 50 kN, 11,240 lbs.

The compact, low profile design is 40 sq. mm x 160 sq. mm (1.57 sq. in. x 6.3 sq. in.), and 90° indexing X4 lets users rotate for the second operation or sides four and five.

The automation console can be used with ZeroClamp's 5-axis self-centering automation ZeroVise M 80/120A, up to 203 mm/8 sq. mm pallets, fixtures, direct part clamping, dovetail fixtures and 52 mm/96 mm mounting pattern on compatible 5-axis vises with adapter plate.

The solution is pneumatically actuated with 90 PSI required only to unlock the console. Pneumatic porting for automation on the back of the console or by a robot or manual operation with an air gun into the two side ports for open, close and air pressure differential sensing of clamped confirmation comes as standard.

No rotary unions or airlines are required, and the solution operates without a constant air supply. The compact design can be mounted to a 5-axis CNC with or without a riser, 4- and 5-axis rotary tables, tombstones, trunnions and all automation systems. It is suited for automation with cobot/robot and as a machine table automation interface.

A complementary ZeroClamp manually actuated 5-axis self-centering ZeroVise M80/120A is available in 80 mm or 120 mm wide sizes and comes with four integrated size 90 Zero Point clamping studs. The vises can be exchanged manually in seconds with the ZeroLox, and for automation it comes ready to accommodate a simple non-pneumatic robot gripper. The vises are completely sealed and feature a self-cleaning, chip repelling design, eliminating cutting chips and coolant from collecting and entering inside. This provides a low cleaning effort when exchanging parts and eliminates coolant dripping out of the vises while they are out of the machine. They are compact, low weight and ideal for cobots/robots and one size for all clamping ranges up to 8.2" wide parts.

By reversing the jaws and changing the two quick-change jaw positions, the vise length does not increase. This allows the use of short tooling, providing higher feedrates, better surface finishes and optimal part access. It is available with many quick change interchangeable jaw options.
