CIM Clamping System for Medical Manufacturing Applications
April 1, 2020
"Advances in medical appliances and tools have resulted in the need for new manufacturing strategies on the part of both shops and OEMs serving the industry," said a Carmex Precision Tools spokesperson. "Ongoing challenges include: more complex parts in sizes that require Swiss-style machining; use of harder and non-traditional materials; lower part production runs requiring increased set-up time; and expanded tooling requirements demanding increased tooling and holder investment."
In response to customer needs, Carmex developed the CIM clamping system-a holder/clamping system that permits tool change without removing the holder.
Features and benefits include:
- A high-precision indexing mechanism that locates the tool in the correct orientation
- Elimination of retaining screws
- Three clamping flats on the shank for maximum flexibility
- Fast tool change through the use of a collet and clamping nut mechanism (clamping wrench provided)
- Fits both standard and special Carmex Tiny Tools
- Internal coolant feature for flow through the holder and tool.
"In addition to allowing for fast and accurate tool change and set-up times, the Carmex CIM clamping system eliminates the need for an extensive inventory of toolholders-a considerable cost savings," said the spokesperson.
According to Jim White, National Sales Manager, "The development of the CIM system is in direct response to the revolution in parts making and production taking place in our most sensitive industries including medical, aerospace and defense. In the highly competitive international marketplace, savings in set-up time has become a critical financial factor, as has the need for tools, holders and accessories. CIM addresses these needs. We look forward to assisting our customers in maintaining their competitive edge."
