Smaller Size CNC Cylindrical Grinders

Supertec Machinery offers its newest size of the Mini Genie CNC Cylindrical Grinder. The 2020A anglehead and 2020P plunge type grinders are designed for parts with a size range of 8" swing and 8" between centers. The design highlight of the 2020 models is a direct drive on the Z-axis (2520 is belt driven) for faster acceleration and deceleration.

"With a direct drive system there is zero backlash, resulting in tighter tolerances and more accurate parts," said a company spokesperson. "With a smaller 16 in. wheel, the spindle achieves a better dynamic balance, allowing for enhanced part finishes. Additionally, the lower swing over the table means less weight on the linear guide ways, thus extending the longevity of the ways."

The new models are designed for shops with limited floor space in mind and feature a total footprint of 78" x 78" (43 sq. ft.). With the Mitsubishi M80 control and Supertec's I-Grind conversational shop floor language, the grinder is easy to learn and program.

The Mini Gene comes in two styles, a plunge model with the wheelhead set at 90° and the anglehead model with the wheehead set at 20°. The anglehead is designed for faster stock removal and a better surface finish on face and shoulder grinding applications.

A Heidenhain .000002" linear scale is used for improved accuracy and repeatability with machine tolerances of .0001" or better attainable. Both machine axes utilize linear guideways for a smoother, more accurate movement.

Some of the standard features of the Mini Genie include a full enclosure, infinitely variable workhead, coolant system with paper filter and magnetic separator and a taper adjustable tailstock.
