Dontyne Gears Introduces Gear Test Rig and In-House Testing

Dontyne Gears has announced the installation and commissioning of a new Back-to-Back gear test rig.

Developed in collaboration with Reece Innovation and Dontyne Systems, the initial configuration features 125 mm centers at 2.5:3.5 ratio. The rig can be configured to test gears of various center distances and ratios based on customer requirements. In addition to standard involute gearing, the rig can evaluate the performance of design variations including materials such as PM and plastic, as well as non-involute profiles.

Test programs using this equipment are being planned for several clients at this time. The results generated will be used to enhance the models of the Dontyne Systems GPS software LTCA. In addition, adding to the Dontyne Gears hardware product line, this test rig will be offered to industry with interest already received from clients in the UK, Germany and Japan.

Dontyne Gears was created to address a support need in the gear industry to facilitate design, prototype manufacture and small testing programs for large and small specialist companies. The company utilizes modern techniques for both CAD and production equipment and provides a testing program when necessary. "Using the latest techniques, it is possible to make great strides in performance with existing involute as well as new gear profiles," said a company spokesperson.
