Cutting Tools Designed for High Temp Alloys
June 1, 2015
NTK Cutting Tools has released a proprietary group of advanced composite cutting tool materials called Bidemics. Bidemics are a new class of cutting tool grades created by NTK specially developed for machining high temp alloys like INCO718. "Bidemics have the potential to achieve much higher productivity with up to 1,600 SFM machining capability. In addition, Bidemics excel in the same machining parameters as whisker ceramics with results in some cases of two to three times tool life depending upon the cutting conditions," said a company spokesperson.
NTK believes that Bidemics can provide companies that machine high temp alloys with the potential to increase machining capacity without investing in new machinery. "The key benefits are: high-speed capability, superior surface finishes and longer tool life potential," said the spokesperson.
NTK has released two new grades of Bidemics, JX1 for all non-scale machining and JP2 a coated multi-tipped brazed grade for semi-finishing and finishing applications machining high temp alloys.
NTK has also introduced its Splash Series tooling for all types of Swiss lathes with high-pressure coolant systems, a very common system in the USA market. This tooling series will include toolholders with coolant through for: front turning, back turning, grooving, I.D. boring bars and cut-off. "NTK's Splash Series tooling and specially designed inserts for Swiss lathes will enable all small parts manufacturers to achieve higher productivity with less chip control problems," said the spokesperson.
