Fagor Automation Corporation has announced the development of the Fagor CNC MTConnect Adapter compliant with MTConnect communication protocols. "MTConnect is a manufacturing industry standard to facilitate the organized retrieval of process information from numerically controlled machine tools," said a Fagor spokesperson. "It maintains a lightweight, open and extensible protocol designed for the exchange of data between shop floor equipment and software applications used for monitoring and data analysis. Utilizing a Fagor developed MTConnect Adapter, delivering this machine tool data to manufacturing management is fast, easy and automatic."
Manufacturers in the past could network their Fagor CNCs for the primary purposes of uploading/downloading part programs and other general use production data. Now Fagor CNC customers can network their machinery control systems, providing process information that could be retrieved from any Web-enabled client connected to the network. "This new ability to network all manufacturers' control platforms together allows users to utilize a host of software platforms that enable them to monitor CNC machine efficiency on a professionally organized level with real-time data," said the spokesperson.
Features of the Fagor MTConnect Adapter include the ability of automatic machine tool axis recognition, multi-machine monitoring capability as well as monitoring capability of PLC system variables. In addition, the MTConnect Adapter supports both Ethernet and RS 232 as well as all third-party monitoring software applications and remains compatible with all machine types and configurations.
The Fagor Automation MTConnect Adapter also comes standard with a fully compatible MTConnect Agent supplied by the MTConnect Institute. "The MTConnect Application Programming Interface (API) data range available for monitoring is very wide and includes Spindle, Tool, Feeds and Speeds, Machining Time Analysis, Maintenance, Mobile Messaging and much more," said the spokesperson. "In addition, API can also be integrated with the various monitoring software packages available in the industry.
"MTConnect's ability, combined with the advanced technological resources of the Fagor 8055/8060/8065 series of CNCs, ensures the customer has the most advanced and accessible CNC technology available."
