European machine tool manufacturer Fermat Co., in conjunction with Lucas, a Fermat Group Company, announced that Methods & Equipment (M&E) has been appointed the sole representative of the Fermat brand in Michigan.
M&E has served Michigan manufacturers since 1962 and has successfully transitioned from automotive production machinery to CNC equipment for the auto, aerospace, medical and mold and die industries. "The addition of the Fermat / Lucas Precision products is a perfect fit for the large and ultra large size molds and dies commonly found in the automotive sector," said a company spokesperson. "The horizontal table type machines and large floor mills complement the dozens of Vision Wide vertical bridge mills M&E has installed in Michigan.
"Fermat's dedication to innovative design and technological advances in machine tools was one of the main reasons Methods and Equipment chose to represent the Fermat brand. Fermat Group's purchase of Lucas Precision in Cleveland, OH, showed its dedication to the U.S. market and solidified a local source for service and installation."
As the new representative of the Fermat brand, M&E was invited to the Czech Republic to observe the Fermat manufacturing processes. During the visit, they observed that each machine is made at several plants. The most important workshops are situated in Prague, the capital of the country, and Brno, the second largest city in Czech Republic. Fermat's headstock production plant is located in the same building as the design department and service center. Fermat occupies 33,200 m (357,362 sq. ft.) of production and assembly halls. Of particular interest was the 70 meter floor mill with two horizontal columns and dual automatic head changers. The machine requires 18 containers or separate loads to ship to the USA.
