5 kV Insulation Resistance Tester
June 1, 2015
Megger, a manufacturer and supplier of test equipment and measuring instruments for electrical power applications, offers a rugged and compact, battery-powered 5 kV digital insulation resistance tester designed for high voltage testing. The BM5200 is designed for use in the maintenance, electrical manufacturing, railway/railroad, industrial/manufacturing and raw materials processing industries.
"Rated to CAT III 600 V, the BM5200 provides greater user safety when testing in high voltage environments as well as a cost-effective solution for technicians working on three phase equipment. Additional safety features include a high voltage warning indicator, an external voltage display after IR test, automatic discharge of reactive loads and high quality test leads," said a company spokesperson.
The digital IR tester features five preset test voltages ranging from 250 V to 5,000 V and has a maximum resistance range of 1 teraohm. The unit is designed for measurement without damaging the insulation.
The BM5200 is fully automatic and features multiple operating modes including insulation, polarization index and varied timed test. A single rotary switch makes operation of the tester easy.
According to the company, the unit features a user settable insulation resistance test timer with a range to 20 minutes, selectable DC or AC voltmeter functions ranging from 25 V to 600 V and a guard terminal that minimizes surface leakage current. The BM5200 has a rating of IP40 and features a backlit LCD display for easy viewing under all lighting conditions.
