CAMPAT Machine Tool, Inc., hosted the North Texas Chapter of the National Tooling & Machining Association (NTMA) on Thursday, April 16. The event program included the meeting and live demos with CAMPAT's technical staff of a Renishaw QC20-W Ballbar system, Renishaw Laser Alignment, Universal Robots UR5 Robot Arm and CAMPAT's spindle balancer.
The Renishaw QC20-W Ballbar system was on display in a Kitamura Mycenter-3XD VMC. The demo showed how the VMC is measured with the ballbar to improve the geometric accuracy of the machine. It takes measurements on the X-, Y- and Z-axis by making two consecutive circles, one clockwise and the other counter-clockwise. The measurements inform the operator of the machine's ability to perform machining of a high tolerance round-shaped part.
A Renishaw Laser Alignment system was on display, an ML10 laser and optics, showing laser compensation for pitch error and how accurate measurements are taken to determine if the machine requires tuning in order to achieve the necessary linear accuracy.
CAMPAT technicians also demonstrated how they handle in-house spindle repairs and precision balancing. The spindle balancer accurately determines the need for adding or removing weight from the spindle in order to lower vibration on the cutting tool and giving more tool life and better finishes.
Another station had a Universal Robots UR5 Robot Arm on display as it performed loading and unloading of a Leadwell LTC-210 CNC Turning Center. The technician emphasized how the UR5, with its automation capabilities, greatly enhance the productivity of the machine.
