To celebrate the NC State football spring game on April 11, engineers at the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) presented NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson with a titanium football replica produced with advanced 3-D printing technology. The full-size football, bearing the NC State logo, was created in ISE's Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics (CAMAL) by Professor Tim Horn. "Made of the same medical-grade titanium material as the commemorative NC State coin printed by Horn that traveled on board NASA's recent Orion space flight, the football took 24 hours to produce," said a spokesperson.
The titanium football will be displayed in Chancellor Woodson's office alongside three real footballs presented to him by Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren and former coach Tom O'Brien.
NC State ISE is a provider of advanced manufacturing research and 3-D printing technology.
