Miller Integrated Management Group (IMG), a defense and maritime company, extended its range of manufacturing capabilities with the addition of the latest in Mitsubishi waterjet and laser technology. "This recent purchase marks a significant capital investment in IMG's production capacity, as it invested close to $2MM in the past year in technologies from MC Machinery Systems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corp.," said a company spokesperson.
"With the addition of the new waterjet and laser, we can now manufacture parts to completion without the need for an outside source. It also allows us to create custom-sized gaskets with essentially no lead time. This is a huge benefit to our clients that require a lot of specialty fabrication," said Jerry Miller, Owner of IMG. "This investment in technology will certainly help to expand our supplier base as well as lower costs to current clients due to bringing all production in-house."
The company needed a laser solution that would provide the speed, accuracy, quality and efficiency that a large job shop demands; but also required that the operation would run unmanned and handle unloading material. The 3015LVPlusII 40CF-X fit these specifications, with 4 kW resonators and 6 x 12 ft. sheet capacity.
When it came to waterjet, the company was looking for a machine that could run cold while meeting growing cutting capacity needs, all on a simple user interface. The MWX4 Waterjet, with its onboard taper control system, filled the bill. The system is servo motor driven with more A-axis tilt angle, and more rotational angle C-axis to allow for even straighter parts in thicker material.
Miller IMG employs more than 180 people in the Hampton Roads, VA, area and occupies more than 140,000 sq. ft. of office and manufacturing space. Its core business is designing and manufacturing electromechancial sub systems. These systems are applied in oceangoing platforms such as the U.S. Navy's aircraft carriers, Virginia Class submarine and many classes of support and auxiliary ships of the Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and the U.S. Coast Guard.
"It's very unique to see a large job shop with both electrical and mechanical competencies, so we were excited to be a part of the process at Miller Integrated," said Bill Isaac, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, MC Machinery.
