LifeCycle Engineering Services Unit Formed

Power Transmission Solutions, a business of Emerson Industrial Automation, offers a new model for enhancing the performance of critical material handling and mechanical power transmission systems with a new business unit providing Lifecycle Engineering Services.

Headed by Chris Carrigan, Director, Application Engineering, the new business offers a range of services that includes diagnostics, education/training, system design, installation, monitoring and repair/rebuild. "The program aims to increase customers' overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), improve energy efficiency and increase product output and customer success with cost-effective solutions from a single provider/partner who takes ownership of critical mechanical power transmission and material handling systems," said a company spokesperson.

"Our businesses have always provided these discrete services, but when comprehensively applied, they provide more than the sum of the parts, delivering significant bottom-line advantages for a customer," said Rob Fuller, Product Manager, Services. "Mechanical power transmission and material handling systems are common denominators in manufacturing operations of every type and are vital to production. If one bearing failure shuts down a critical segment, an entire process can be paralyzed for hours or days. Protecting those assets is vital, whether it means training a new maintenance staff member, monitoring torque on a turbo drive train or a design review of a new processing line."

"The expertise at Emerson encompasses industries such as aerospace, aggregate, power generation and turbomachinery, oil/gas, metals/steel, marine, food/beverage and HVAC to name just a few," said Carrigan. "Our breadth and depth of industry experience are unmatched by internal engineering staffs, and our R&D gives us forward-looking insight into a host of issues unknown to the rest of industry. Having these assets at your side as plant owner is invaluable. In addition, we understand P&L, energy costs, sustainability and the financial implications at the macro level of our customer's business.

"In addition to its own areas of specialization, Power Transmission Solutions works with other Emerson business units in Climate Technologies, Network Power and Process Management to support nearly every vital system of any business. Our Lifecycle Engineering program can reduce the costs and complexity of using multiple vendors - internal or external - for employee training, diagnostics, engineering, procurement, installation, repairs, etc. Outsourcing these functions to a single provider for mission-critical systems is a cost-effective option, according to companies that have crunched the numbers. Manufacturers of all sizes - from single plant to multi-plant and multi-national - can optimize their capital investments, achieve higher productivity, reduce total cost of ownership and increase return on investment."
