Guiding Systems for Metals Production Lines
March 1, 2025
IMS Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of noncontact measuring systems that gauge the length, width, thickness and other dimensions or qualities of ferrous and nonferrous metals, has added strip guiding systems to the IMS portfolio based on an exclusive licensing agreement with Nireco, a Tokyo-based company with more than 70 years of experience in the metals industry. These guiding systems are manufactured at IMS's location in Mars, PA, with service provided by the IMS service team.
Strip guiding systems help to track hot and cold strip on production lines and complement IMS's noncontact x-ray, isotope and optical gauges. The systems include sensors for strip alignment position, along with a data processor utilizing advanced control algorithms. They couple to provide automatic strip guidance from one stand to another using controllers that promote wedge-free rolling. The system can be easily retrofitted on existing processing lines and included in new facilities. Strip guiding systems can be customized to meet the speci?c requirements of each customer by working closely with IMS's engineering team.
"Strip guiding systems exemplify our ongoing commitment to innovation," said Chris Lackinger, CEO of IMS Systems. "This technologically advanced system can help manufacturers and processors of steel and aluminum strip improve quality, productivity and delivery times. The combination of guiding systems and measuring technology creates obvious synergies within the organization. We are excited to cooperate with Nireco."
