Makino's Slim 3n Vertical Machining Center is designed to provide high performance and efficient machining for high volume part production in a wide range of applications.
The Slim 3n features a fixed table to provide customers with flexibility in fixture design to meet larger envelope, higher fixture weight and simple interfacing requirements. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) design techniques were employed to optimize structural rigidity and torsional stiffness for enhanced performance and consistent results. The machine structural configuration is based on a closed frame type design that, together with a pair of long supporting columns, offer increased structural rigidity.
The Slim 3n features XYZ-axis travels of 19.7", 15.7" and 15.7", a 23.6" x 15.7" table and a maximum workpiece size of 38.4" long x 19.7" wide x 22.8" tall. Table load capacity is 881 lbs. and an armless, direct access 26-tool magazine provides capacity for a wide assortment of tooling.
The Slim 3n can also be configured with an integral, automatic pallet changer (APC) with a 21.6" x 11.8" pallet delivering a pallet change time of 4.5 seconds. The Pallet Changer facilitates setting up on one pallet and machining on the other pallet simultaneously to reduce set-up time and increase spindle utilization.
Included in the standard configuration of the Slim 3n machine is a 16,000 RPM, HSK-A50 spindle. The spindle supplies wide range capability with a blend of power, torque and speed for increased productivity in a wide variety of materials and applications. As an option, the Slim 3n can be configured with an 8,000 RPM HSK-A50 spindle to meet high-volume production requirements.
Measuring 58" wide x 191" long (including rear discharge LUCC), the Slim 3n minimizes floorspace. It is easy to move and reconfigure as floor layouts require. Created for the production environment, the Slim3n coolant system enhances productivity. Configured with nozzle, flush and through-spindle coolant as standard features, chips are efficiently removed from the cutting zone. The Slim3n structure incorporates a sloped design to aid quicker chip and coolant evacuation, and an included Lift Up Chip Conveyor (LUCC) at the rear of the machine efficiently handles high chip generation.
The Slim 3n offers seamless transition to a wide assortment of material handling systems-starting with operator manual transfer to automatic transfer featuring conveyors and loaders to unattended gantry and robotic systems.
