Rotary Position Sensors for Positioning of Automotive Robots

The NewTek RV series of Rotary Position Sensors are designed to ensure the performance accuracy of industrial robotic systems used throughout automotive assembly plants.
Car factory robots perform various assembly tasks, such as picking and placing doors, engines, windshields, motors and heavy components. In addition, automotive robots perform arc and spot welding in attaching chassis components on an assembly line and painting, sealing and coating automotive bodies. Rotary position sensors provide accurate angular displacement measurements to help ensure the correct positioning of robotic arms.
With a shaft that rotates 360° with no stops, the RV Series of Rotary Position Sensors measure shaft angle position over a nominal range of ±30°. "Without internal components to wear or degrade, this RVDT technology offers long mechanical life even in the harsh, wet and dirty locations of automotive assembly. Noncontact measurement also offers greater accuracy in measurement feedback," said a company spokesperson.
NewTek RVDTs are engineered to operate with higher accuracy and longevity in areas with high temperatures, vibration and shock. A wide operating temperature range of -65 °F to 221 °F (-55 °C to 105 °C) offers long-term reliability in the hot environments of automotive production. Shock and vibration tolerant, these AC-operated RVDTs also offer good noise performance.
Units are available in a size 8 (0.75") and size 11 (1.06") diameter. Since the AC-operated Rotary Position Sensor requires external excitation, the NewTek NTC-6000 LVDT Signal Conditioner powers the sensor while converting its position output into 4-20mA, 0-5V, 0-10V or RS-485 format for robotic control systems.
