Swiss-Type Lathe for Large-Diameter Machining

Star CNC Machine Tool Co. offers its SX-38 Type B, a 12-axis compact Swiss-style machine that has the capacity to turn and mill a complete part in a single operation with high precision and accuracy. Slantbed construction supports difficult-to-machine materials up to 42 mm diameter.

The capability to keep 80 tools resident with high horsepower motors means heavy metal removal and flexibility. B-axis surfacing with up to 135° travel handles up to 1/2" diameter tooling.

Star CNC's High Frequency Turning (HFT) software handles chip control in tough materials while the Star CNC Motion Control System optimizes programs to reduce cycle time.

The Star Monitoring and Operator Support System (SMOOSS-i) is a web-based application with real-time efficiency reporting and operator intervention predictability that allows users to remotely monitor machine status, part count, production rate and history via smart phone, tablet or PC. In addition to Star machines, SMOOSS-i can also monitor other machine tools equipped with FANUC CNC and FOCAS software.

"This Star CNC high-functioning, large diameter Swiss turning machine, with both gang-type and turret-type tool posts, serves the high precision machining requirements demanded by the medical, automotive and aviation-related industries," said a company spokesperson.
