Automated PLC Control Functions Reduce Set-Up Time
June 1, 2020
COE Press Equipment's new PLC controls feature user-friendly screens with several simulation and automated functions to reduce set-up time.
COE Press Equipment's next generation PLC controls feature multiple advanced features engineered to significantly reduce the time required to commission new press feeding lines. New loop and press simulation capabilities enable COE to test, debug and perform a complete start-up prior to shipping, decreasing set-up time at the customer by half or more. A user-friendly HMI logically guides operators through the set-up process, while COE's Work Roll Advisor and Feed Roll Advisor software are now embedded into the controls, all contributing to easy set-up and changeover.
Features include:
- Loop Simulation emulates material to see how straightener reacts to changes from the feed
- Press Simulation simulates press with SPM changes, feed angles, pilot, start feed, press at the bottom, etc.
- On the Fly automatically changes speed of the feed to adapt to press
- Direct Speed Enable allows straightener to automatically hit target speed at the first stroke
- Work Roll Simulation is a visual guide that helps operators see what is happening inside the straightener
- Work Roll Advisor automates straightener set-up
- Feed Advisor provides automated feed set-up
- Smart Speed automatically adjusts to optimal line speed based on press speed and feed window (requires ethernet connection with press)
- Ethernet Diagnostics allows operators to see in real time any connection failures between devices
- Pictorial main menus helps operators easily navigate to machine specific control screens by selecting an image of the machine they wish to operate.
Key to the new controls is a redesigned user-friendly HMI and 10" touchscreen, making it easy to enter machine set-up information or quickly troubleshoot issues in the system. Other features of the new PLC controls include 100-job memory storage and password protected job editing and parameters to secure stored recipes.
The new controls are offered with any COE coil processing line.
