Toolholder Saves Tool Change Time in Aerospace Applications
June 1, 2020
"The increasing demand for smaller, more complex parts throughout the aerospace and defense sector has resulted in an increased demand for Swiss-style machining applications. A unique toolholder/clamping system recently introduced by Carmex Precision Tools saves time and money for both job shops and OEMs serving the industry," said a company spokesperson.
According to Jim White, Carmex National Sales Manager, "The increased use of harder and non-traditional materials, lower part production runs and expanded tooling requirements are demanding larger investments in both tooling and holders. The new CIM toolholder/clamping system permits tool change without removing the holder-a significant savings in both changeover time and toolholder expenditure."
CIM features and benefits include:
- A high-precision indexing mechanism that locates the tool in the correct orientation
- Elimination of retaining screws
- Three clamping flats on the shank for increased flexibility
- Fast tool change through the use of a collet and clamping nut mechanism (clamping wrench provided)
- Fits both standard and special Carmex Tiny Tools
- Internal coolant feature for flow through the holder and tool.
White said, "The development of the CIM system is in direct response to the revolution in parts making and production taking place in our most sensitive industries including aerospace, defense and medical. In the highly competitive international marketplace, savings in set-up time has become a critical financial factor, as has the need for tools, holders and accessories. CIM addresses these needs. We look forward to assisting our customers in maintaining their competitive edge."
