Metal AM Automated Rapid Quoting and Model Building

"Configuring all of the CAD model alternatives wanted with Linear AMS' new Rapid Quote service expands options and can save hours, if not days, in eliminating guesswork," said a company spokesperson.

Linear AMS, a 3-D metal printing service bureau, offers an online tool called Rapid Quote, an interactive service permitting users to upload 3-D CAD models, explore design iterations and build cost models.

"Uploading a CAD model to Linear AMS through Rapid Quote not only connects customers directly to the experienced metal AM service bureau, but it also allows them to adjust the model as much as they want with automated and accurate cost quotes for each iteration - all without going back and forth with a sales rep," said a company spokesperson. "Problem areas are identified and options are suggested quickly, speeding rework. Configuring all of the alternatives with cost information for each greatly expands the number of options and can save hours, if not days, in eliminating guesswork."

"Metal additive manufacturing (AM) is not only tearing up the rule book where design is concerned, it is remaking the supply chain by bringing on-demand manufacturing closer to everyday reality," said Linear AMS Founder and Vice President John Tenbusch. "Getting real-time quotes while at the same time improving part features, tolerances and design for manufacturability will profoundly change and improve customer businesses."

The ability to highlight any cause for concern on the CAD model allows a number of design choices before production begins. In addition, the same digital CAD file powers the Linear AMS metal AM equipment, streamlining design through production, including process traceability and material selection.
