AIMS Metrology Acquires Englewood-Based Tool & Die Shop
October 1, 2016
AIMS Metrology (Miamisburg, OH), an OEM for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), has acquired CMI Technologies in Englewood, OH. The purchase, which was finalized August 5, 2016, is one of several investments AIMS has made this year to better serve its customers. AIMS completed a second expansion in April 2016 and in July the company was awarded a $100,000 grant to develop new vision and image recognition technology for its CMMs. The addition of the CMI facility will allow AIMS to control quality and delivery timeframes for the components it manufactures for its LM and HB series CMMs.
"We have been looking for the right tool and die shop for a couple of years," said AIMS President Dave Delph. "We found out that CMI was for sale and the company's people, expertise and equipment sold us on them. Aside from quality improvements, we will be able to gain greater efficiencies in operational costs and deliveries."
AIMS will also use its expanded capabilities to develop and produce air and electronic gauges. "If a customer needs greater throughput or higher accuracy than a CMM can deliver, these gauges will provide it," said Delph. The new gauges will be engineered to complement AIMS' CMMs and function as part of a work cell in a variety of applications.
