Schunk has introduced two machine tool accessories designed for micro machining: the TRIBOS-RM precision toolholder and the VERO-S NSE Mini clamping system for small parts.
TRIBOS-RM Toolholder for Micro Machining
Special consideration must be made for micro machining, which is why SCHUNK is offering the TRIBOS-RM precision toolholder as a solution for micro machining with the ISO interface. The one-piece, rotationally symmetric design is engineered for long life of the machine spindles and the complete transmission of power.
Unlike heat shrink clamping, the TRIBOS-RM achieves steady tool clamping that will not distort the toolholder. The user will benefit from a precise run-out accuracy of less than 0.003 mm, which is optimal with small tools for micro machining.
The TRIBOS-RM is designed for high spindle speeds of up to 60,000 RPM in high-speed cutting, making it suitable for the high speeds involved in micro machining. Sizes ISO 10 D 1 - 6 mm are available. The balancing grade is G 2.5 at 25,000 RPM.
VERO-S NSE Mini Small Quick-Change Clamping System
For the production of small precision components, such as in the medical technology or moldmaking industry, SCHUNK has expanded its line of modules for efficient workpiece clamping. With a height of only 20 mm, the VERO-S NSE mini pneumatic quick-change module is very thin, making it suited for retrofitting existing machines to achieve full utilization of the machine area and direct clamping of small workpieces.
A patented dual stroke actuation concept provides high clamping performance of the module. With a module diameter of 90 mm and a clamping pin diameter of 20 mm, the standard integrated turbo function of the NSE mini achieves pull-in forces of up to 1,500 N. The clamping pin is positioned by short tapers and retained by three clamping slides. Locking is achieved mechanically by means of a spring assembly. It is self-locking and designed for form-fit clamping. Large contact areas between the clamping slides and the pins minimize the surface compression in clamped state, reducing wear on the modules.
Because the minimum distance between two clamping pins is only 100 mm, the NSE mini can be used to achieve very small and variable borehole gauges for workpiece or pallet clamping. This enables flexibility in the area of quick-change pallet systems. To maximize the life span and process reliability, NSE mini - like all VERO-S modules is equipped with all functional parts such as the base body, clamping pins and clamping slide, all of which are made of stainless steel.
In addition, the low-maintenance, fully sealed modules are protected against chips, dust and coolant. The machining of small parts becomes especially efficient with fully automatic loading of the machining center. For this purpose the base plate of the VERO-S NSE mini can be provided with a hole for an air purge connection under the clamping pin opening. The air purge prevents chips from becoming lodged in the module during workpiece changing by a gantry or robot. The clamping slide position can also be monitored.
