Tongtai Machine & Tool Co. Ltd. recently hosted a worldwide open house, bringing together more than 1,000 of its customers, suppliers and media from around the world to its headquarters in Kaohsung, Taiwan, to showcase the company's commitment to R&D, innovation, technology application and service. Its North American importer and distributor, Absolute Machine Tools, Inc., sent several of its sales and dealer teams to learn more about Tongtai in its native Taiwan.
The two-day event was themed "Together to the Future." The group saw Tongtai's new 205,000 sq. ft. factory being built in the Taiwan Southern Science Park, bringing the company's total factory space up to 750,000 sq. ft. "The government only allows the most modern, technically advanced companies to build in the Taiwan Southern Science Park," said a company spokesperson.
"The open house emphasized Tongtai's commitment to innovative machine tool development, advanced manufacturing abilities and technology applications," said Steve Ortner, President of Absolute Machine Tools. "All of our attendees were able to see, first-hand, the company's efforts to develop more machine functions to increase our customers' competitiveness. Learning more about the scope of the company was eye-opening for many and its R&D initiatives surrounding Industry 4.0, additive technologies and special tooling for aerospace."
Tongtai showcased 46 machine models built within the past two years, including CNC lathes, horizontal and vertical machining centers, floor-type boring and milling machines and metal additive manufacturing equipment. Its subsidiaries, including Anger Machining of Austria demonstrated its own brand of transfer machines.
"Together to the Future" featured three pavilions: "Foundation," which focused on Tongtai's 47 years of history; "Solutions," which addressed the company's manufacturing abilities and industry applications through presentations and demonstrations; and "Innovation," which showed the company's high-end technologies and trends involving machine tool development, including powder bed infusion additive manufacturing equipment.
Eight topical seminars were offered over two days providing visitors multiple opportunities to learn more about the aspects of manufacturing that pertained to them. In addition to the Tongtai Product Launch, the company presented the Tongtai Key to Industry 4.0; Tooling Solutions for the Aerospace Industry; and the Connection of Tongtai and Industry 4.0 as well as future development.
The open house concluded with a press conference announcing Tongtai's agreement with Materiatise NV, a Belgian additive manufacturer and the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan to develop and promote additive software programs.
