The measuring machine HELICHECK PLUS is shown with a robot loader.
WALTER now provides the HELICHECK series, a solution for measuring machines especially for the measurement of complex parameters on taps. "This product involves two important aspects: the full functionality to measure all relevant parameters on the threading tool and the fully automated processing of the measurement routine that eliminates the influence of the operator," said a company spokesperson.
"For the measurement of pitch diameter, flank angle, etc., manufacturers of threading tools still use a variety of hand-held measuring devices," continued the spokesperson. "However, these measuring devices have one major disadvantage: They are all designed specifically to one or more of a few parameters, which do not allow the complete measurement of specific geometries, such as are present on the tap. Specially trained staff is necessary to measure accurately and reliably by conventional means. The measurement of all relevant parameters is almost impossible, takes a long time to carry out and is not in the desired repeatable tolerance since it is dependent on the operator. The logging of the measured results is done almost entirely in a manual way and thus is time-consuming."
According to the spokesperson, WALTER has addressed these issues with the new measuring modules within the software Quick Check Modular (QCM). "For manufacturers of threading tools, it is now possible to measure these tools both tactile and non-contact, fully automatic, fully independent of the user with highest precision," said the spokesperson.
Quick Check Modular offers parameterized templates to measure the complete tool geometry. These templates are designed to be adjusted and saved via the input of crucial parameters such as chamfer length, nominal diameter, thread pitch, neck length, position first tooth, flank angle, etc. This automatically creates a measurement program which is processed in the sequence fully automatically from the measuring device and stored in the database. All measurement results can be documented as a generated protocol.
"With this procedure, the operator can precisely measure highly complex geometries in the simplest way," said the spokesperson. "All measurements are reproducible, eliminating the influence of the operator."
New Robot Loader
The new robot loader for WALTER measuring machines HELICHECK PLUS and PRO is designed to make the unmanned measurement of complex tools more flexible. According to the company, depending on the weight and the tool length, up to 2,000 tools with a maximum weight of 1.5 kg and a maximum length of 280 mm can be automatically loaded into the measuring machine. "Each tool is measured, recorded and separated on the pallets distinguishing between good tools or scrap," said the spokesperson. Due to the fully integrated control software, a user-friendly and simple operation is given. The loading of four pallets (option 8) is ergonomic and comfortable from the front of the robot loader housing. An automatic collet change for different tool diameters is also available."
