CNC Big Bore Lathes Available for Large Workloads
March 1, 2015
Sharp Industries offers a line of CNC turning operations that are designed for large workloads. "Our line of Big Bore CNC Flat Bed Lathes are especially made to handle big parts and large mold workpieces," said a company spokesperson.
Sharp's new STA, STB and STC series machines are driven by FANUC 0i-TC controls and servo drives. The machines can also be equipped with Siemens or Fagor controls. Maximum swing over bed ranges from 37" to 65", and the distances between centers from 60" to 236" or more. Spindle bore sizes are available from 6", 9", 12" to 15". The machines have a bed width of 24", 32" or 49".
Sharp also offers a Big Bore Facing Lathe, the STF series. These machines are driven by FANUC 0i-TC controls and servo drives. This machine features a maximum swing over bed of up to 60", a fixed center distance of 60" and a 32" wide bed. "The Big Bore Facing Lathe is ideal for large workpieces with short lengths," said the spokesperson.
The machine beds are constructed from high-quality Meehanite castings. "All guideways are Turcite-B coated for better oil retention and resistance to wear," said the spokesperson. Electrical cabinets are temperature controlled with a heat exchange system. Spindle oil chiller is available for controlling headstock and spindle heat expansion under heavy cutting conditions. "To enhance the cutting power of the spindle motor, spindle speeds are designed with four-step increments, hydraulically driven for speed changes," said the spokesperson. The tool change system, available in different styles, offers a hydraulic four-way turret, V-8 or V-12 hydraulic turret system. The tailstock and quill can be positioned by manual or hydraulic action.
Sharp offers a two-year warranty on FANUC controls and a one-year warranty on its machines.
