Two Schools Renew NIMS Accreditation of CNC Technology Programs

In order to keep up with 21st Century standards of the metalworking industry, Madison Comprehensive High School and Madison Adult Career Center have renewed the NIMS accreditation of its Precision Machining and CNC Technology Programs as of Nov. 13, 2014.

"With this accreditation, the high school and adult education programs reaffirm their ongoing commitment to uphold the national industry standards that are set forth by NIMS, further enabling both programs to support the needs of students, the local community and employers within it, and to the metalworking industry at large," said a NIMS spokesperson.

Review criteria included the following:

  • Advisory committee involvement
  • Equipment, tooling and measuring devices
  • Facilities
  • Instructional staff
  • Program administration
  • Program features
  • Program purpose
  • Student credentialing.

The renewal review process began in 2013 and culminated in a fall 2014 on-site evaluation that occurred at the high school facility, which is also used by the adult program. The evaluation was conducted by NIMS Lead Evaluator Joan Cook (Executive Director, RICOWI, Inc.). According to the spokesperson, Cook was very impressed, most notably by the exceptional reputation that both programs are known for among local employers.

In retrospect, Adult Career Center Director Sonja Pluck noted that "this accreditation acknowledges the quality of our training and of our instructors. We take pride in providing quality education for our students and contributing to the workforce needs of our community."

These accreditations focus on skills from the NIMS Machining Level I National Standard, with an emphasis on CNC lathe and mill operations.
