Doosan introduced the FM 200/5AX Linear full 5-axis machining center with linear motor and direct drive technology at IMTS. Developed for simultaneous 5-axis contouring, the FM 200/5AX Linear is designed to machine a wide range of complex parts, including medical devices, automotive turbo chargers and other precision parts.
Doosan's FM200/5AX Linear machining center is built upon a rigid bridge-type base composed of mineral composite material. "Because mineral castings absorb vibration at ten times the rate of iron castings and are much more thermally stable, finished parts are delivered with enhanced surface finishes while tool life is increased," said a company spokesperson.
The X, Y and Z axes on the FM200/5AX Linear are driven by high-precision linear motors, providing increased accel/decel feedrates with little to no backlash, according to the company. The 4th and 5th axes rotary tables are equipped with direct drive motors for enhanced performance. The platten size is 7.9" in diameter with a capacity load of 33.1 lbs. Travels on the FM 200/5AX Linear are 7.9", 13.4" and 11.8" (XYZ). Rapid traverse rates on all axes are 1,968.5 IPM, with a cutting feedrate of 787 IPM.
Spindle speeds of 45,000 RPM are achieved with the FM200/5AX Linear's 19 HP spindle featuring an HSK E40 taper. According to the company, vibration has been minimized and stability has been maximized. The machining center features a 24-tool station as standard and has a direct drive, servo-driven automatic tool changer. Maximum tool diameter: 2". Maximum tool length and weight: 7.1" and 2.2 lbs.
The FM200/5AX Linear features a Heidenhain TNC control with an ergonomic swivel pendant and user-friendly 19" screen.
