Hurco Celebrates 50 Years with Release of 3D Import Control Feature

As part of the 50th anniversary, Hurco has released a feature called 3D Import, which might be the most significant control feature since Hurco's co-founder, Gerald Roch, invented conversational programming in 1974, according to a company spokesperson.

"With the addition of 3D Import to the Hurco control, customers can go from 'solid to part' almost seamlessly," said Michael Cope, Hurco Product Technical Specialist and author of the book 'The Power of FIVE: The Definitive Guide to 5-Axis Machining.'

"The customer can simply load the file they receive from their customer directly into the control, which eliminates the need for extra steps," said Cope.

"When Hurco invented the DXF Transfer option it was a real game changer for the end user because many shops received DWG or DXF drawing files. This made it very easy to transfer the files to the machine and use them to create programs on the shop floor (right at the Hurco CNC Machine), and also eliminate incorrect data being entered. Today, it is common for shops to receive solid models of the parts that they need to produce, and even paper prints are becoming obsolete.

Therefore, Hurco engineers invented 3D Import, which includes 3D DXF technology that displays all geometry that the CAD system outputs, including splines. With 3D DXF the customer can select the bottom of a contour, and the Z-axis depths will also be automatically input into the conversational block. All previous versions of DXF translators would only display lines and arcs data, and were only useful in 2-D - no Z-axis data was translated. This feature gets even more impressive when we talk about Transform Plane, a key feature from Hurco that makes 5-sided programming so easy, because the solid model portion of the 3D Import feature automatically creates the necessary Transform Plane data blocks in conversational programming," explained Cope.

While conversational programming is the cornerstone of the Hurco control, Cope said the control is equally powerful for shops who do not want to use conversational programming. "Our control is equally powerful for NC as it is conversational and our exclusive NC/Conversational Merge feature gives the best of both programming methods. An often overlooked benefit of the Hurco control is the powerful specifications that come standard. To my knowledge, our control is equipped with the most robust technical specifications of any control on the market. For example, the Hurco MAX5 control comes with 4GB RAM Memory, a 2.7 GHz Dual Core Processor, a 128GB Solid State Hard Drive, up to 4,000 bps processing speed and up to 10,000 block lookahead due to our patented UltiMotion feature."
