The UNE series of gundrilling machines from UNISIG Deep Hole Drilling Systems make it possible for manufacturers of all sizes to bring gundrilling into their machine shops and start drilling deep holes with a depth to diameter ratio of 100:1 or more, the company reported.
"These servo-driven gundrilling machines have the spindle speed, coolant delivery and accuracy to perform precision deep hole drilling in a wide range of materials," said a company spokesperson. "Features like counter-rotation of the cutting tool and workpiece improve the hole's straightness and concentricity, and the control software monitors tool life and operating parameters for optimal quality. The UNE series' fully enclosed work envelope and compact footprint make it a practical addition to CNC shops looking to expand their range of capabilities. Designed to work with automation, these machines are regularly configured into a manufacturing cell for optimized production."
UNISIG's UNE series includes multiple machine models and configurations, with a maximum drill diameter between 12 mm and 40 mm (0.5" to 1.57"), depending on the model. Dual-spindle models double the productivity, or can be used in single spindle mode for an extended drilling diameter range. Maximum drilling depths reach 1,500 mm (59") or even 3,000 mm (118"), depending on the machine model.
The flexibility of UNE series machines can be taken further with an optional universal workpiece table, allowing for a variety of workpiece fixturing to be utilized by the customer. This versatile series of machines balances high-performance components and engineering with a lower overall investment, offering a complement to CNC machining centers.
