Advanced Shaft Mounted Encoder for Rotary Position Applications

The Encoder-FLEX 1024 rotary shaft encoder from 4B Components, Ltd. is designed to take the guesswork out of shaft position monitoring of slide gates, rotary valves, distributors and other precise position monitoring applications. It is also suited for speed monitoring on slow-, medium- or fast-moving shafts, such as conveyors, elevators, mixers or dryers.

"Encoders that get in the way can be bent or broken," said a company spokesperson. "The Encoder-FLEX 1024 extends less than 3 inches and has none of the bulkiness that comes with traditional encoders."

There is no limitation to the number of rotations on the Encoder-FLEX 1024. Use it for 0 to 500,000 rotations and program the resolution for 1 to 1,024 pulses per rotation. The Encoder-FLEX 1024 provides three outputs in one device: 4-20 mA output, quadrature pulsed output and Modbus RTU communications for advanced configuration and diagnostics.

All electronics on the Encoder-FLEX 1024 are encapsulated in epoxy, providing protection from moisture and the elements. This design is engineered for maximum reliability in the field, and the sealed body is also constructed from stainless steel.

With the Encoder-Flex shaft separate from the electronics, there are no moving parts within the unit, providing improved reliability for harsh wet and humid environments and also Class II Division 1 dust hazard areas.

The Encoder-FLEX 1024 is designed to be simple to use and easy to calibrate. Two status LEDs indicate operational mode and rotation. Users can calibrate and set up the unit quickly with the touch of a magnet for shaft speed, angular shaft position or gate position.
