Midwest Automation Inc., an electrical control panel fabricator in the Midwest, announce it has been certified as a Woman Business Enterprise (WBE) by the Missouri Office of Equal Opportunity.
Midwest Automation Inc. CEO Colleen Keusenkothen said this represents a big win for diversity in local workplaces certification and has reinforced her passion for female representation in the fabrication and control panel industries.
"As a female CEO, I am deeply honored and humbled to lead our company forward every day," said Keusenkothen, one of few female control panel CEOs in Missouri and its surrounding states. "This certification is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team. I am truly excited for the future opportunities it will bring our talented, highly skilled workers."
Keusenkothen (née Michel) is a 1991 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy in St. Louis and a 1995 graduate of the University of Dayton. She leads the 40-year-old, family-owned company, which still has several decades-long team members. To expand new opportunities, Midwest Automation Inc. began offering Electrical Automation & Control Systems internships to students at Ranken Technical College.

WBE certification began in 2015, recognizing businesses that are at least 51% owned and controlled by a woman. It provides greater opportunities for businesses to bid on state contracts and makes it easier for companies to patronize more female-led businesses. The Office of Equal Opportunity exists to promote diversity within the state workforce and improve the opportunities for minorities and women to access state employment opportunities and state contracts.
