The aim of the HELLER HF 5500 Horizontal Mill-Turn is to enable an even more universal use, both in single-part and in series production.
The HF Series features new spindle units (multiple options to suit various needs) incorporating the HELLER zero-spindle system with higher performance, as well as the optional use of a gantry drive with two ball screws in the Z-axis.
In addition to the existing options of interpolation turning and the use of the HELLER out-facing head system, HELLER now also offers a swiveling NC rotary table with a turning function especially for the HF 5500 to cater to the various requirements in complete machining.
While the out-facing head system equipped with an additional machine U-axis enables productive turning of complex inner and outer contours, HELLER has specifically designed the HF 5500 Mill-Turn for the machining of rotationally symmetric components. The prerequisites for the turning function are enforced drives in Z and A. The enforced Z-axis is equipped with two ball screws and two direct driven absolute measuring systems combined with a gantry-drive system. Both of these prerequisites are included in the optional PRO equipment package also offering simultaneous 5-axis machining, high axis dynamics in XYZ with 10 m/sq. sec. and reduced positioning tolerances. The POWER, SPEED and PRO configuration packages have been available from HELLER since the introduction of the 2nd generation of the machines.
Flexibility in Detail
For turning operations on rotationally symmetric parts, HELLER has equipped the HF 5500 Mill-Turn with a Direct Drive Turning (DDT) rotary table, a spindle with locking function for the secure fixing of turning tools, a balancing technology cycle and Siemens NC turning cycles. A clearly arranged user interface provides ease of operation of the integrated balancing cycle for automatic determination of the balancing quality. The cycle automatically establishes the balancing quality and the required balancing weight. The Siemens NC cycles graphically support simple programming of turning operations and include a comprehensive range of options, e.g., the programming of contours, including recesses and undercuts. Moreover, the standard configuration includes cycles for roughing and easy generation of turning contours.
HELLER has equipped the HF 5500 Mill-Turn with a seven-point media interface with multiline clamping technology that is fully integrated into the machine. As a result, 80 bar clamping pressure is available for mill-turn operations. HELLER offers this interface in two different versions. One version has been designed for simple hydraulic clamping fixtures, the second one for universal clamping chucks. In addition, the media interface is provided with a clearly arranged input mask for clamping fixture-specific functions and clamping path monitoring.
To help ensure optimal precision, HELLER provides an HSK-T tool holder as standard as well as turning tool measurement directly inside the spindle. The tool measurement function comprises a wide range of measuring cycles with graphical support as well as a precision laser and probe. The probe is integrated into the measuring bridge of the precision laser. To provide optimal protection against flying chips, the measuring bridge has been mounted to the rear of the swiveling rotary table.
