"Welding shops that feature a dedicated space for their stainless steel operations are able to generate superior TIG welding results than their counterparts. Badger Sheet Metal Works stands out from most custom metal fabrication companies in that its stainless steel room provides the ideal environment for superior weld quality," said a company spokesperson.
TIG welding accounts for approximately 90% of the welding performed in Badger's stainless steel room. TIG welding uses long rods to fuse two metals together. It is a slower process than MIG welding, and one that welding shops like Badger use for detailed work.
"Our confined, stainless steel space provides the environment needed for a cleaner, smoother weld that can be performed on light-gauge material down to 20 gauge and up to 1/4 inch," said the spokesperson. MIG welding is used by welding shops for most carbon materials. MIG welding can fuse thicker metal pieces together without heating them all the way through as a result of the wire feeds acting as filler material.
"We consider pulse welding to be the welding shop version of spray art," said the spokesperson. "This technique uses welding current that constantly changes from high amperage to low current, and then back through that cycle again. This allows our welders to work with thinner metals and those that are highly heat conductive without burning through them."
There are several reasons to control the pulse frequency, with higher pulse settings per second more common when working with thicker metals and lower pulse settings more common for thinner metals. Badger noted that a TIG welding foot pedal that controls the pulse frequency creates a more artistic touch that takes more skill to achieve.
Welding shops such as Badger Sheet Metal Works uses pulse welding for many of the larger projects in the carbon area. "Our highly trained welders have the expertise to perform high-quality work for a variety of custom metal fabrication projects," said the spokesperson.
