Sunnen Continues Expansion of Global Manufacturing Capabilities
November 1, 2019
Sunnen Products Company is expanding its global production footprint, opening a manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico, to complement its production in the U.S., China, Switzerland and Brazil. The company will move a portion of its abrasive and tooling products from its St. Louis operation to the Monterrey facility. The transition will be phased to begin by the end of 2019 and conclude by the end of 2020. "The company expects minimal impact on staffing levels in St. Louis with this transition and will reassign most employees to fill needs in other areas," said a company spokesperson.
"Sunnen, a family-owned business, remains deeply committed to its employee base and to St. Louis," continued the spokesperson. "The company recognizes that diversification of the labor pools from which it draws its highly skilled workforce needs to expand in order to meet the demands of its customers." Further, workforce tenure and pending retirements present a challenge the company must respond to. "This expansion represents a positive opportunity to further our global reach, advancing our position in the marketplace. Additionally, it allows our highly skilled St. Louis workforce to expand their focus on innovating the Sunnen portfolio and to better serving our customers for another 95 years," said President & COO, Chris Miltenberger.
