Custom Robotic Pressure Feed Blast Grit Blast System
June 1, 2017
A Fortune 500 customer recently contacted Guyson to design a complete finishing solution for its production challenge.
Customer requirements included:
- Continuous operations, lights-out, fully automated
- Self-checking, guaranteeing part quality, machine reliability and uptime
- Full flexibility for a variety of parts
- Precision blast media management to meet tight roughness tolerances.
The customer purchased a robotic cell from Guyson after reviewing competitor proposals and seeing that Guyson could not only meet the requirements, but also support the machine after installation. Guyson provided machine solid models, robot cycle time simulations and engineering software.
This system was engineered for precise surface finish to prepare parts for best coating adhesion properties. It was designed fully automated to run without need for operator intervention. The process utilizes a vision system for incoming part identification to ensure that the correct part has been placed in the correct tray. This in turn selects the correct tool and correct handling and blast program to execute the processing of each part.
A 7th axis control allows for independent part rotation during the blast cycle, which optimizes the blast program - increasing the speed, accuracy and ability to blast traditionally difficult to reach areas with precise blast coverage.
It is equipped with 3-D printed gripper fingers that are designed around the customer's CAD models to hold the exact contour of the part for maximum control and precise pick & place.
The is comprised of an ABB IRB 140-6 6-axis robot for nozzle positioning and an ABB 1RB2600 for parts handling. It is protected by a Guyson Custom Robot Suit designed for abrasion protection and freedom of movement. For media reclamation, the system is equipped with a Guyson Model 75/12 and D-2000 dust collector.
