The Midwest's Haas Factory Outlet - A Division of Midwest Manufacturing Resources recently held a symposium series at its Twinsburg and Springboro, OH, Tech Centers. The Tips & Techniques for Machining Precision Parts full day symposiums were split up into two different learning tracks, with the morning learning track focused on turning techniques and the afternoon learning track dedicated to milling techniques. Each learning track featured three seminars plus a live cutting demonstration on a Haas CNC machine tool.
"As a leading supplier of high-performance machinery, we feel it is our responsibility to keep our customers current on the latest metal removal techniques," said Dave Tucker, President of HFO/Midwest. "To do this, we have partnered with experts in tooling, software and metrology to create a symposium series that is packed full of valuable content. Our hope is that customers will be able to apply some, if not all, of the tips and techniques shared at the symposium in their shops to improve productivity and grow their business."
During the morning learning track, topics included: modern turning techniques by Kennametal; advantages of quick change tooling by Sandvik; and benefits of milling and turning parts on a single platform by Haas. The afternoon learning track featured: benefits of using milling attachments, such as angled heads and broaching heads, by Benz; benefits of deep pocket plunge milling by Iscar; and how to increase metal removal rates and tool life with dynamic milling by Mastercam.
As a bonus tip, representatives from Renishaw were on hand to discuss the benefits of routine calibration of CNC machine tools. To demonstrate the two most popular methods of calibration, a ball bar test was performed on a Haas ST-20 CNC lathe and a laser calibration demonstration was performed on a Haas DM-1 drill/mill machining center. HFO/Midwest offers both of these services to customers in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia as part of its comprehensive Preventive Maintenance programs.
