The Berks Career and Technology Center has once again officially renewed the accreditation of the Precision/Computerized Machining Technology program.
This marks the Leesport program's fourth time securing NIMS accreditation. In doing so, the center demonstrates its continued commitment to providing industry-level training within the state of Pennsylvania and for the greater U.S. manufacturing industry.
The Precision/Computerized Machining Technology Program offers manual, CNC and EDM training and has provided students with the opportunity to earn NIMS certifications, resulting in nearly 700 certifications issued to date. Leading by example, Assistant Principal Erik Damgaard and Instructors Peter Hoffman and Eric Hopewell collectively hold 24 NIMS credentials from the Machining Level I and Machining Level II skill groups.
Following an on-site audit by NIMS Evaluator Norm MacIntyre, the program received the highest scores in the accreditation evaluation categories of:
- Administration Support
- Equipment, Tooling & Measuring Devices
- Facilities
- Instructional Staff
- Program Features
- Program Purpose
- Student Testing Efforts.
"Students understand the value of NIMS certifications, and on average, earn five certifications during their time in the program. These are added to their professional portfolio so that they are ready to display their abilities to prospective employers," said Peter Hoffman, Computerized Machining Technology Instructor.
"We are pleased to continue providing training that offers students the opportunity to earn more than 10 NIMS certifications that are recognized and valued by employers at the local, regional and national levels," said Eric Hopewell, Precision Machining Technology Instructor.
Reestablishing this industry award secures accreditation for the next five years.
