Parts Accumulator Designed for Lights-Out Manufacturing
January 1, 2016
The automated Rota-Rack Parts Accumulator from Royal Products allows machine tools to run unattended for extended periods of time.
"The Royal Rota-Rack is reliable, does not take sick days and will continue production long after the last employee has left for the night or the weekend," explained Brian Mecca, Director of Sales, Royal Products.
The patented Rota-Rack safely collects finished parts as they come off of a CNC lathe. It gets its name from an automated rotary spiral that safely directs parts to the center of the turntable. A low-friction UHMW material covering all contact surfaces provides parts protection. "The Rota-Rack is also ideal for protecting the straight edges of milled parts, which is often a problem with other collection methods," said a company spokesperson. Part size capacity is up to 3" in diameter and 10" in length.
No machine interface is required-instead, the Rota-Rack unit plugs directly into an 110V outlet, then the operator sets parameters such as part cycle time, degree of turntable rotation, and shutdown counter with a simple touchscreen PLC. A large capacity, 36" diameter turntable provides over 850 square inches of surface area, while its heavy-gauge steel construction enables the Rota-Rack to handle up to 700 lbs. of parts. An easily adjustable degree of rotation also gives Rota-Rack the flexibility to handle both long and short parts.
The spokesperson reported that Royal Rota-Rack's universal design adapts to virtually all CNC lathes, with left/right positioning and an optional conveyor with a coolant tray. Its height can be adjusted from 10.5" to 53" and it can also be used to keep parts organized to help with quality control.
