Fail-Safe Emergency-Stop Improves Operator Safety

Failsafe emergency-stop improves operator safety.

EAO Corporation, a global supplier of Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems and components, improves end-user safety with the introduction of its new Series 04 Fail-Safe Emergency-Stop Switching Element.

The "fail-safe" element will detect if the stop switch actuator becomes disconnected from the emergency stop actuator. If there is any defect, the fail-safe contact opens, cuts power and stops the machinery as if in an emergency shutdown routine.

These new contact blocks will fit any new design that utilizes Series 04 emergency-stop switches. According to the company, retrofitting existing applications is easy as well. Following EAO's design of other Series 04 modular products and contact block styles, these units simply snap on. Three types of connection are possible: push-in terminals (PIT) with cage clamps, or screw and plug-in terminals.

"This product is intended for applications where maximum user safety is a top priority. Even redundant emergency-stop systems are sometimes ineffective without this type of element connected to an emergency-stop switch," said a company spokesperson.

Designed to fit Series 04 E-Stops, these fail-safe contacts enhance user safety in machinery, lifting/moving, transportation, medical/industrial X-ray, packaging and food processing applications.
