Electro-Mechanical Axis Ball Screws

Are you still using conventional double nut ball screws in your machine design? Steinmeyer offers the ETA+ electro-mechanical axis drives. "Steinmeyer has been able to produce a ball screw with two-thirds less friction while simultaneously increasing nut stiffness by fifty percent. And, because friction torque remains constant even during reversal, ETA+ is able to provide an optimum connection between motor and slide with no reversing error," said a company spokesperson.

According to Steinmeyer, some of the advantages of using ETA+ over conventional double nut ball screws are:

  • Reduced control errors
  • Reduced friction means much less heat generated, which means less cooling required
  • Less heat also means if you are stretching ball screws you may not have to
  • Reduced noise
  • No mechanical design changes required - just a simple retuning of the servo.
