Retractable Lanyards for Hand Tools

Gear Keeper's hand-tool retractable tethering systems are designed and tested so that tool weight, application and recoil/retraction force are in balance.

"When a Gear Keeper retractable tether is extended for use, only minimal force is necessary, thereby avoiding worker fatigue," said a company spokesperson. "In the reverse, when the tool is automatically retracted, it is gently guided back to the safety of its stored position.

"With a Gear Keeper retractable tool tethering system, whether the tool is stored, held or used, the dangers of dropping the tool, entanglement from a dangling tether, arm fatigue and worker annoyance are avoided."

Gear Keeper Retractable Tethering Systems feature a variety of configurations and customizing options, including retractable wrist tethers, retractable shoulder strap tethers and 360° rotating clamp-on belt clip tethers. Additionally, when "working aloft" applications move from requiring a single tool to multiple tools, Gear Keeper's patented, Quick Connect tool tether fittings permit the employee to use one tether for many tools.

Two of the retractable tethering systems are the RT4-5602 for tools up to 1 lb. and the RT3-5602 for tools up to 2 lbs. The RT4-5602 weighs 3 oz. and has a 36" extension with a 16 oz. tool limit. The RT3-5602 weighs 7 oz. with a 42" extension for a 32 oz. tool limit and includes a built-in locking mechanism to secure the lanyard at any extension.

Both tethering systems include stainless steel carabineers for attaching to the worker and a side release elastic loop lanyard that can be attached to virtually any tool, according to the company. Additionally, for multiple tool use with either retracting system, extra quick release lanyards are available.

"Built for heavy-duty industrial use with maximum breakage strength and durability, Gear Keeper retractable tethers are even designed to survive extended salt water and chlorine exposure," said the spokesperson. "They are virtually jam-free with a patented flushing system that self clears sand and other debris from the retractor mechanism. With more than one million systems in use, the devices have a failure rate of less than .001%."
