Measurement Supply Company recently held a grand opening event at its new Measurement Technology Center in Tampa. In conjunction with the grand opening, Measurement Supply also presented a "product development" themed CMI Show (Concept, Manufacture, Inspect). "Attendees experienced a range of products and disciplines required to take a "napkin sketch" idea to a finished, validated product," said a company spokesperson.
The new Technology Center welcomed 100 visitors. They experienced technologies including white-light scanning for reverse engineering and part validation, large, accurate measurement capabilities with a photogrammetry system, SolidWorks 3D modeling, Stratasys FDM rapid prototyping, CAMWorks Intelligent CAM solutions, gage calibration services and live Trak CNC milling. This conveyed the steps a product travels from concept to being manufactured.
A sample part was then distributed to over 25 precision measurement instruments for analysis and validation for the inspect portion of the event. The common product was measured on a large compliment of vision systems (both manual and CNC driven), a manual CMM, a new CNC CMM equipped with continuous scanning sensors, an optical comparator, hardness testers, surface finish testers, a roundness tester, a contour tester, microscopes, a 3D surface profiling system and various hand measuring tools with most collecting measurement data to output SPC process data.
Many attendees, seeking solutions for their most difficult measurement requirements, brought their own parts to the event and were able to analyze them. Others scheduled return visits to the Technology Center for more in-depth evaluations of various measurement systems.
"It was very gratifying to hear so many positive comments from the attendees," noted Chris Sudetic, President of Measurement Supply Company. "People were excited to find that such a facility exists here in Florida where they can evaluate precision measuring products. Most of the equipment on display will stay at the facility permanently. As newer technologies become available, we will expand our product inventory. Not only will the Measurement Technology Center be used for demonstrations of products, but it will also be utilized as a training center for many of the products. New users can be trained locally without having to travel great distances."
The Measurement Supply Technology Center has precision measurement instruments on display for evaluations and demonstrations.
