Xact Wire EDM Corp., one of the largest wire EDM facilities in the United States, is celebrating its 30th year in business in June, 2014. The company has also added additional wire EDM capacity to both of its facilities in Waukesha, WI, and Cary, IL.
Xact's capabilities include: production of medical, surgical, dental and die components; mold details and electrodes; high precision components; small wire diameters; 30+ degree taper angles; automatic threading; large workpieces; auxiliary rotary spindle EDM; file transfer/translation capabilities; CMM and other inspection capabilities; and small hole EDM.
Wire EDM is a method to cut conductive materials with a thin electrode that follows a programmed path. The electrode is a thin wire. Typical diameters range from .004" to .012", although smaller and larger diameters are available. There is no physical contact between the wire and the part being machined. Rather, the wire is charged to a voltage very rapidly. This wire is surrounded by deionized water. When the voltage reaches the correct level, a spark jumps the gap and melts a small portion of the workpiece.
Wire EDM can be accurate to +/- .0001". No burrs are generated. Since no cutting forces are present, wire EDM is ideal for delicate parts.
Xact is certified to ISO 9001:2008. Quality control records are available for customers at their request.
"Xact Wire EDM Corporation combines people and technology to provide precision wire EDM services to its customers in the aerospace, medical, defense, energy, packaging, tool, die and machining industries," said Jeff Gubbins, Co-Owner.
