Linear Machining Center for Precious Materials and Ceramics

In the Bumotec S-191 Linear range, linear motors are intended to ensure maximum precision and reliable repeat accuracy in the machining of parts, including watch components and ceramics.

Starrag Group's Bumotec S-191 Linear series CNC turning/milling center features linear motors that are intended to provide maximum precision and reliable repeat accuracy in the micron range when processing items such as gold, silver or platinum, watch components or medical implants and instruments.

"Due to the combination of the rapid linear drive (acceleration: 1.1 g; speed: 50 m/min) with a high-resolution Renishaw measurement system (resolution: 1/100 um) and a stabilized cooling circuit for all heat generating elements, the S-191 Linear achieves excellent results, which will be welcomed not just by existing customers from the watch industry," said a company spokesperson. "Bumotec has carried out numerous measurements that verify machine stability in the magnitude of 2.5 micrometers over an entire day of production. The machining center achieves this exceptional precision within just a few minutes of starting the machine."

The machines from the S-191 series are suitable for turning, milling and other machining operations (such as grinding) on individual parts or from bar (diameters: 32, 50 and 65 mm) in a single setting. "The series has a versatile modular structure, which means that it is possible to build almost any kind of machine from standardized modules - including a machining center with seven axes and three spindles," said the spokesperson.

"In addition to cutting precious materials, this 'ceramics-safe' machine with high-speed spindle (150,000 RPM) can not only turn and mill ceramic parts, but by using different grinding discs (measuring 0.5 to 80 mm), they can also be dry ground," said the spokesperson. "An integral laser system checks the accuracy of the tools."
